Winter '89-'90,
Lake St. Louis, MO
A newfound blogging friend, Ann, has given me an award for my blog being Over the Top. (Thanks, Ann! It's my first award, and I intend to make the most of it.) Now, I've always thought that particular idiom meant something like extraordinary, ridiculous, or outrageous. It does, moreover, have its origins in World War I trench warfare terminology. When soldiers were ordered to leave the relative safety of their trenches and venture out into the open, perhaps into harm's way, they were going, literally, Over the Top. It's easy to see that my life experiences have been anything but entrenched with SAM as my partner.
Here are my one-word answers--as required, but not fair!--to The Questions:
Your Cell Phone? Ancient.
Your Hair? Graying.
Your Mother? Efficient.
Your Father? Missed.
Your Favorite Food? Mom's.
Your Dream Last Night? Forgotten.
Your Favorite Drink? Wine.
Your Dream/Goal? Teaching.
What Room Are You In? Living.
Your Hobby? Gardening.
Your Fear? Heights.
Where Do You See Yourself In Six Years? Classroom.
Where Were You Last Night? Here.
Something That You Aren't? Male.
Muffins? Yes!
Wish List Item? Plants.
Where Did You Grow Up? Everywheredaddyworked.
Last Thing You Did? Scratched.
What Are You Wearing? Jeans.
Your TV? Flat.
Your Pets? Peanut.
Friends? Many.
Your Life? Exciting!
Your Mood? Romantic!
Missing Someone? Yes.
Vehicle? Honda.
Something You Aren't Wearing? Perfume.
Your Favorite Store? YoungLiving.com.
Your Favorite Color? Aquamarine.
When Was The Last Time You Laughed? Now.
Last Time You Cried? Sunday.
Your Best Friend? SAM!
One Place You Go To Over and Over Again? Past.
Facebook? No!
Favorite Place To Eat? Home.
As instructed, I give this award to five, fine people who might like this sort of thing. I didn't think I would at first, but I've changed my mind. Hey, I'm not male, remember?
Note: Just because I didn't list more than five people doesn't mean that any one of you blogger friends out there is undeserving of this award. Julie gave the award as a warm blanket to all of her friends, which is something I'm also doing right now. So, please feel free to grab the award and participate! I hope you do...
Well, how sweet of you! I will do the one word answers too! That will be fun! Congrats on your first award. I recieved some along the way, and have most on my sidebar way down low...but now I must keep them within the posts because I have no more room. Thanks for thinking of me!!! P.S. I like your answers...many of which I also have the same answers! (I am allergic to perfume)!!!
ReplyDeleteThis will also be my very first award too. And I'm humbled that you thought of me.
ReplyDeleteIn response to some of your one-word answers:
Cell phone? - I'm gettin an iPhone on the 24th!
Your hair? - gray is beautiful!
Your Dream/Goal? - You're goin to receive the Teacher of the Year Award sometime during your teaching career.
Your Hobby? - I thought I told you gardening is a lifestyle, not a hobby.
Last Thing You Did? - Did you use a special tool (my kids got me a bamboo back-scratcher for Christmas many years ago, I still use it and it's one of the best Christmas gifts I ever received!).
Your Mood? - With and exclamation mark even, ooo la la. ;~)
One Place You Go To Over and Over Again? - Great answer. But isn't it lonely there?
I'll get to work on my Over the Top award post very soon.
There a many possibly words for each question. It's fun to see what people choose.

Julie, thanks for participating. I didn't realize at first how much fun it would be to think of these answers. Your response about perfume has given me an idea for another post.
ReplyDeleteTC, congrats on the phone! Is it a gift or bit of self-indulgence? I hope you're right about the hair and dream; I know you're right about gardening and scratching (though I tend to use my fingernails, which even SAM likes better than bamboo); mood: what else did you expect at this time of year, especially after I found this old picture? The past isn't lonely at all. In fact, it's a popular and lovely place to visit as long as regrets get chucked (not just checked) at the door.
Marnie, I know you don't like awards, or you would have been on my list too. It is challenging to think of one-word answers to some of these questions. I cheated a little on one of them.
You did a great job with the one word answers! With the way my mouth runs, I could never give a one word answer. hee hee... I did notice you pushed the envelope a couple of times there :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your list of Q&As, I read dream/goal as dream/goat, and for a moment I felt relived that I wasn't the only person who had a dream goat!
ReplyDeleteI'll get my coat, eh?
Skeeter, I don't talk much, but I do tend to run on and on when I'm writing. I've been training myself to write short stories lately so I'll probably never write that novel I've always wanted to do--which is probably just as well...
ReplyDeleteTIG, leave your coat on the hook and sit a spell. I'd love to hear about your dream goat. Does it ever butt heads with the night mare?
Cute! And congrats on your first award. I am shocked as you should be getting TONS of awards for your excellent writing and great shots!
ReplyDeleteI think you're definitely over the top and I like it. As for the award, normally I don't participate in awards (I'm paranoid enough to think SOME of them are tracking devices) but I really like this one, especially the questions - and your answers, so thank you very, very much and I'll have it up in a day or two, prolly after Valentime's Day. In fact, Happy Valentines Day to you all!
ReplyDeleteThat was a very entertaining list. Loved learning more about you! I like to eat at home too.
ReplyDeleteRosey
Great job with the one word answers! Like the answer to Where did you grow up. That one was a challenge for me. Another award coming your way. Come over to Inkpots and pick it up!!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much...The questions are interesting and I will have to do this one.....Michelle
ReplyDeleteHi, Tina, and thanks. I guess I've been hiding in the trenches for too long.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Paula. I've wondered about being "tracked" myself, but then with SiteMeter and all of those other analytic thingies, privacy in blogging or any other aspect of life is nonexistent. I remember being contacted at one time--you can guess the time--by the Nielsen ratings outfit to have one of those boxes on top of our television. We declined and thought what a horrific invasion of privacy that would be. Haha!
Rosey, I'm glad you enjoyed it. As for the eating at home, don't you think most restaurants have become heat-and-serve-frozen-food establishments? There's just not much to tempt the palate anymore when eating out. Please feel free to participate in the award if you want.
Thank you, Ann. I feel honored. Yeah, that answer was a tough one, considering that I was a military brat. I'll be over to your site soon...
You're welcome, Michelle. It is fun to do this once in a while. I'll be looking for your post.
Congratulations on this award, W2W! It's always fun to read the answers to these sorts of questions and find out more about my favorite bloggers. I think it's especially neat that you listed SAM as your best friend--I hope the two of you had a wonderful Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the privacy issue, it's pretty ridiculous at this point. I guess when I first got started I thought I had more control over things than I do. Still, though I think the awards are sweet - well, maybe I'm not sweet, yeah, that's it.
ReplyDeleteHello, hello and belated Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteI love reading memes that reveal more about a person. I'm a Honda person, too. Plus, this artist LOVES the fact that you describer your fave color in specific detail. Aquamarine...mmmm! I decorate my home in teal, aquamarine, lilac, and periwinkle. Achoo! I'm allergic to perfume and refuse to be use facebok. Haha, great answer that "you're not male!" :)

Thank you, Rose! I hope you had a great V-day with your sweetie too. I've been lagging a bit with blogging lately, but there's a good reason I'll post about later.
ReplyDeleteSure you are, Paula, one of the sweetest bloggers I know (not sappy, though).
Hi, Gel, and thanks! I'm big on color in our home too. I've had more than enough earth tones and plain vanilla in previous homes. As for the perfume allergy, most of that junk they sell in department stores ought to be declared toxic waste. It's no wonder so many people have developed allergic sensitivity.
Hi their thanks for visiting my blog. You will find the answers on today's post ... I didn't realise they were supposed to be one word! The problem I have with awards is that I tend to mix with a fairly limited set of blogs so the same awards would just going to the same people and bothering them, so I just don't pass them on.
