Almost Springtime Holey-ness in Tallahassee

A paper wasp's nest lies still on the ground

Magnolia tree hole swallows the sound

 Of footsteps approaching Trillium treasure

Twisted tree roots, untwisted, what would they measure?

A woodpecker's flute flung to the floor

Leaf veins laid bare for lacy decor

A stream carves a bit deeper its bedrock of limestone

One violet we see, for now all alone

"We share a walk, a life, a love, a moment,"
SAM and I say--
Thirty-one years together,

  1. Happy Anniversary!! And I've got to say, I LOVE your 'illustrated' verse. It is absolutely perfect. You are a wonder! ~karen

  2. Do you know what I love about your blog? You always have the best pictures!

Love that theme of holeyness here.
    Great pics!

  5. Yes Happy Anniversary! And admiting my general geographic ignorance I always wondered what your Big Bend (over easy) was. Now I know. We stayed at a B&B on our way home fomr Fort Myers for a few days. it was really nice. We'll go back their next winter and do some more exploring along the Gulf Coast.

  6. Happy Anniversary! And thank you for all the wonderful pictures.

  7. Happy Anniversary, you two!!!!!

    Neat post here and poem!!!

  8. Congratulations to you both .. and glorious photos .. good time of year for getting married .. life ahead.

Cheers and here's to many more Hilary

  9. Happy Anniversary! Wish you many more years of togetherness!!

Love all the pictures, and above all the captions:)

  10. I LOVE this!!! And Happy Anniversary! Those are great pix, and the little rhyme made me smile. That looks like something I'd see walking around my house~ <3

  11. Thank you all! SAM took the day off yesterday, and we had a great time doing one of our favorite things in the woods. My legs ache! Hehe!

  12. Congratulations to you and SAM! Buck and I just celebrated our 27th on 2/17. His 1st marriage was 25 (almost 26) years; mine was 11. People used to say he had gone "middle-aged crazy" when he married me. Ha! He who laughs, lasts...

Your photos and accompanying words are fantastic. I think my favorite is the woodpecker's flute.

  13. Just what were you and SAM doing in the woods? LOL...

Happy 31 years of wedded bliss. It has all been bliss right? Just joking, happy anniversary to you both and many more long walks in the woods and along water edge...

  14. Happy Anniversary to you and SAM! A fun post, W2W--I hope you and SAM enjoyed your special day. I love the "woodpecker's flute."

  15. Congratulations to you and Buck, Elizabeth! You're so right about laughing. It's been our "glue" that's held us together for so long. The flute's my fave too.

Skeeter, we were doing deep knee bends, I'll have you know. Or at least I was with the camera at times. Yes, it's all been bliss, and you know I never lie. Thanks!

Thank you, Rose. We had a great day, probably one of my favorite anniversaries ever.

  16. Wow, I'm follower #100!
    Love the photos.

  17. Happy Anniversary! I loved your pictures and the poem.

  18. Congratulations. Spring seems to be here, but the pecan trees stand bare and still waiting for real Spring.

  19. Happy anniversary, so exciting!! <3

  21. truly superb nostalgic snaps. Happy Anniversary. Wish you another 31 and more years together..

  22. Ms. Wolfe, thanks so much for helping me break the barrier or leap the hurdle.

Thank you, Ms. Heather. I'm glad you liked the post.

Ms. NJ, I noticed the faintest hint of green shoots in some pecan trees this past weekend. Or maybe I was just imagining it--wishful thinking. It has been nice and warm the past several days, and my spring flowers are blooming.

Thanks, Ms. Elizabeth! You've given me an idea for a future post with the one you posted recently. Isn't blogging grand?

I'm so glad you enjoyed the post, Mr. Talha. Thanks for visiting.

Well, Tomz, thank you! I hope you're right about many more years together with my SAM. Thirty-one more? That's a pretty tall order, but we'll try for it.

Thank you, Mr. SM. I'm glad you enjoyed them.

  23. Good hikes are full of surprises. Photos like that help us remember the big things and the small.
