Progressively Profligate Pumpkins

"When Pumpkins Drink" Original Source: Unknown.

I know. It's shocking. I thought I should warn you in case you're planning a Halloween party. The repeal of the popular-with-Progressives 18th Amendment (Prohibition or Volstead Act) should have excluded pumpkins. They are, after all, naturally seedy characters and prone to this sort of behavior. Keep your sharp knives, booze, and car keys as far away from those pumpkins as possible.

  1. Halloween isn't a big thing over here. However, I do currently have an uncarved large pumpkin sat on top of the fridge, wearing my gardening hat. It is waiting to become a spicy soup!

  2. Hi w2w,
Funny lanterns but a rude awakening of binge drink! Halloween isn't popular here neither except for an event held at some English class for small children.
I don't know now but untill few years ago, a practical joke done in a group by some young foreigners in costume on the loop-line in Tokyo or in Osaka frowned in displeasure.
Do you celebrate Halloween, by the way?

  5. This is too funny:) My daughter is the jack o'lantern creator here, and she mentioned trying to make one vomiting like the bottom one in the photo. But I'm going to draw the line at putting beer cans beside it:)

Glad to see you back posting--I'm not a "tweeter," so I hope you'll still share some thoughts here from time to time.

  7. IG, I heard that Halloween has been making inroads into Brit culture of late. It's about time we got back at you all for Dickens' influence here in the States. Enjoy the soup!

Cosmos, I'd never thought much about how Halloween is perceived in other countries. When we were kids, it was more of an innocent thing: Kids dressing up in silly costumes, parents taking them trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. Over the past 20 or 30 years, it's become more of an excuse for adult parties and foolishness. I don't really celebrate it per se. If our grandson lived closer to us, I would probably make more of an effort, I guess.

Mr. Gray, welcome to the blog! Hope you enjoy the season, however slowly.

Julie, I miss those days of carving up the pumpkin with the kids. Somewhere I have a pic of one our kids did years ago. We left it sitting outside on the porch until Christmas (this was in Illinois) and the snow began to fall. It was pretty scary looking by that time!

Rose, I can't wait to see what your daughter comes up with this year. Maybe she could use empty candy wrappers heaped about for effect instead of the beer cans. But then you might not have as many trick-or-treaters stopping by. They might think your candy is pathogenic:)

Leigh, I'm curious as to where you saw it. This particular pic was sent to me by a relative, and he said a friend sent it to him. I wanted to give credit to the photographer but don't know who it is. Happy Halloween to you too!

it's good to see you back!
Your picture is great - will post your blog to a few young people, hehe. Telling: first eat your pie, than drink your beer!
Have a nice(r) Halloween (than above!)
